adidas: the story

February 13, 2008

what’s the best way to make people fall deeper in love with the brand other than sharing the brand’s story?

history of adidas greatly captured in this video:

    Hi Joanne,

I loved that Adidas video. It makes me think of 2 things:

    1) Before companies can share their histories in a meaningful and effective way, I think it has to be loved by people already (as opposed to sharing their history when no one really cares about it)

    2) There have already been other companies that have been sharing their histories, but the question is, how? Here Adidas uses the power of storytelling and uses the medium of a video, which makes it compelling. Compare this to say, a consumer goods company that shares its history via a timeline (yawn.)

    3) How do companies stay true to their modest beginnings while dealing with the fact that they now make an immodest sum of dollars? I think the key is staying true to the company vision, and be humble even when your a massively successful brand like Adidas. (ie. don’t do a Jennifer Lopez – make a big deal about being “Jenny From The Block” and yet flashing her riches for everyone to see. The key is consistency in branding, image, and really everything you do.

And sadly, that was 3, not 2 things.
