BIC Permanent Marker

First saw this TVC in one of my uni classes – love it and laughed out loud when I saw it. As they always say, the world is really small and Singapore is even smaller. I came into this industry and got to work with the 2 folks that came up with this Cannes 2005 Silver award winning entry! Even more reasons to put this up to share with everyone. :)

Optimus

Optimus is a mobile phone company based in Portugal. Their task was to create a brand experience targeted to young people within a big music festival context. They provided a solution by a service called “Broad Shoulders”. Ten big men offered their Broad Shoulders for people to climb in order to see better the concerts or just to find a lost friend amongst the crowd. This service was greatly accepted by young people, creating word of mouth in the three days of the music festival as more people were asking for the Broad Shoulders service.”

unselfish advertising – that’s what advertising should be! advertisers (especially the client) should not always think about what benefit their marketing tactic will bring to their brand. what they should consider first is whether the target audience will enjoy/like the whole experience. that’s more important because if the audience loved it, it’ll definitely bring lots of good WOM for your brand. BUT, getting the client to understand that, is not that easy. some clients seem to be deeply entrenched in the conservative culture of their company (and brand) and don’t want to be the one making the change. sigh.

anyway, kudos to the guys for this great piece of work!

Sony PSP

“This idea for the Sony PSP is hilariously awesome. Basically it lets you play your PSP while making it look like you are reading The Divine Comedy. By looping your fingers through the two folds you can hold your video game behind the book. The phony hands look pretty believable (although completely ridiculous). The Cliff notes written on the back are a nice touch, just in case someone wants to know about what you are reading.”

this made me laugh – think alot of students will love to have a copy with them wherever they are in school! to think of it, someone should create more of these in different book covers (and different skin tones) and sell them to students! :D

paddypower.com – not cool.

usually, when it comes to advertising, i take ads that poke fun at people or religion with a pinch of salt. but for the following ad, i thought it was pretty offensive. to mix some as important as The Last Supper with a vice, it’s really threading on very very thin ice here. i’m not cool with it.

click on the image to see the slightly enlarged version. it’s really no point seeing it any bigger anyway.
